The widely acclaimed nonfiction work tells the story of an African American woman who sought treatment for cervical cancer at Johns Hopkins Hospital in 1951. During treatment, and without her consent, samples of her cancer tissue were taken for medical and scientific experimentation.

The Schuylerville Public Library invites readers ages 9-12 to join our youth book club. The "Dog Eared Book Club" will be debuting with the book, Secrets at Sea by Richard Peck. The group will meet on Friday February 10 at 4pm, at our library. The club will then meet on the second Friday of each month to discuss the book of the month. In addition to the youth book club, we invite grades 9-12 to join us in reading The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins as the first book of our new Teen Book Club. This group also meets on Friday February 10 at 4pm (separate from the Dog Eared group), and the second Friday of each month at 4pm. Anyone looking to join the group(s) can simply attend a discussion and sign up to get the book each month, or you can contact the library for a copy. We will have a limited number of copies available at the front desk each month which can be taken out on a first-come-first-serve basis. Additional copies can be ordered upon request. If you would like to volunteer to be a discussion moderator for either group, or for more information please contact Amanda at 518-695-6641 or via email at afiandaca@sals.edu.
